"Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so."
-Douglas Adams as The Encyclopaedia Galactica from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Adams was only partially right. Time is a purely human construct based on our perception of sequences of events both inside and outside of anthropomorphic influence. I'm kicking off the year at Zen Dixie on the first Monday of January. It feels right. That's January third for those of you paying at home, which would be all of you.
Is that why I called my first front page essay "Time?" Not really. It was the first word that came to mind. I might have called it "Laundry," or "Kitty Litter," or "Glove Funk" and it would have felt just as fitting. It's called "Time." Deal with it.
Sometimes no news is good news. This is a no news kind of week, which is nice. The only site news I have is that I am on my way to getting the website cleaned up and tamed. When I started last week, it was a surprise to see how much was here! Over the next few days, sections will appear, sections will disappear. Some of these changes will be permanent, some are just for the immediate future because I lack the time and inclination to add to them.
One interesting thing about this: When I started cleaning up "Emily Dickenson Is Sick Of Your Shit," I received submissions and requests to submit or be a part of the site. It's a nice thought, but I'm not really cut out to be a managing editor and learned the hard way that doing so pretty much meant working a full-time job with no paycheck. I will review books, movies, TV shows, music, and websites. Drop me a line via the contact for if that interests you. Here is a link to a fussy, verbose guide to what I need from you if I review your thing. BTW, the list of items for the tear sheet is a nice blueprint to use even if you don't contact me.
So welcome to housecleaning week and a few new things besides. I hope everyone has a happier, more blessed, kinder year.
